Holmer's Headlines November and December 2019

06 Dec 2019

Another year over…

Hello and welcome to our Christmas edition of Holmers Headlines.

As I enter year 5 of being your club manager I have to say what a privilege it is to oversee Holmer Park. I love so many things about my job, but I particularly enjoying making a meaningful difference. Unlike my previous club manager positions, Holmer Park allows for such a broader spectrum to make that difference. Don’t get me wrong I love seeing a club member that has been successful in their gym programme or feels a million dollars after one of our facials but at Holmer it doesn’t just stop there. I love the fact that we are able to support our Parish by providing a free meeting place for the local Parish council and parishioners. I love the fact that where possible our contractors and suppliers are local, contributing to the Herefordshire economy. I love the fact that we are able to support the Breast Cancer Haven, St Micheals Hospice and Midlands Air Ambulance. I am proud that we are protecting and maintaining trees around our parkland, providing habitats for wildlife, cutting our plastics waste and recycling as much as we possibly can.

Finally I love having the responsibility of doing our fabulous building the justice it deserves, ensuring that, sympathetically, it is well equipped for the modern day spa user. I often wonder what Mr Watkins who built Holmer Park in the 1860’s thinks of what his country manor house has become. I hope he’s happy!

The best team

I also love seeing people develop and this year has been particularly successful for our teams. I really do have a long list but just to name a few…  A well-deserved promotion for Housekeeper Jen promoted to Head Housekeeper, Duty Manager Lisa taking the lead in club Health and Safety, former Apprentice (now full gym team member) Bradley achieving his qualifications and Spa Therapist Alice being promoted to senior therapist and spa trainer. I really do care about our team members and they do a great job in sometimes challenging circumstances. I appreciate all they do and hope you don’t mind me using this platform to say how appreciate I am. So a huge thank you to you all, you’re all great and I hope you all look forward to our Christmas get together on the 19th.

I would also like to say thank you to the team at the Mosaic Head Office who provide us with a great support network and some of the very best industry expertise.

It’s been a busy year

Our owners have continued to back us with major investment in the club and this year. I am very appreciative for the patience you all show during our building work. I know it can be frustrating at times but I hope you agree that it is worth it in the end. I think back to the “lovely” Portakabins and although they weren’t great they were a necessary evil and well worth the “short term pain”.

A reminder of the work we have carried out this year:

  1. Fully refurbished the club changing rooms
  2. Fully refurbished treatment rooms
  3. Fully refurbished the club toilets
  4. Fully refurbished the Spin studio and installed new bikes
  5. Installed underwater swimming pool safety cameras
  6. We have almost finished constructing our brand new Wellness Studio
  7. Installed new gym air conditioning

Also let’s not forget the major investments made in the club over the previous couple of years which included:

  1. New car park
  2. Pool thermal area and new spa pool install
  3. New gym kit

I am also happy to say that where possible this commitment to continually improve our club will continue and we are in the process of planning our next projects that I know you will be very happy to hear about.

A new ones just begun…The New Year rush

Please note whilst we have extended the club facilities over the last few years to better prepare for busier periods, we do see a sharp increase in club usage between Jan-March. To ensure that we continue to deliver the best possible service and experience please note the following club changes:

  • As the club reaches membership capacity, from the 1st January we will be closing our Weekend Evening, Interegnum and Child memberships.
  • It may be necessary to introduce a maximum capacity for guests during our child swim times. If this is the case then we will introduce a booking system via the club reception.
  • We continue to offer our FREE breakfast as well as our 06:30am opening time. May I ask you to consider, if possible, working out in the morning? The club is much quieter and an active start to your day does have many health benefits.
  • We will have 15+ extra classes to ensure there are plenty of class positions available
  • Increased team members to ensure we deliver the best possible service
