Holmer's Headlines Feb 2019

From the Club Manager...

Dear Members,

We’re opening earlier!
This month I have some exciting news as I can now confirm that we have taken the forward-thinking decision to open the club earlier during the week.

I’m delighted to say that from the 1st March we will be opening from 6:30am Monday - Friday.

We have taken this decision to ensure those members that would like to attend the club earlier (before work the school run or the early birds) have the chance to start the day with a workout.

FREE Members Breakfast
I am also happy to say that Head Chef Ben has committed to continuing the FREE members breakfast for the foreseeable future too. So why not join us from 6:30am, have breakfast and start the day in the best way possible!

If you are a Daytime Member and would like to upgrade your membership please do contact the sales team on [email protected] and they will be happy to help.

A Thank You
For those of you that have read my editions of Holmer’s Headlines, I hope will say I am honest, tackling club issues head on and I explain in detail projects to ensure you are kept well informed. I am aware that the club has been busier than usual over the last I few weeks and I wanted to thank you for your patience and support. Your feedback is important to us, we really do listen and I am happy to inform you that we are or already have addressed lots but I would like to highlight the following points:

We are constantly reviewing the Group Fitness timetable and due to demand we will be adding two extra Yoga classes to ensure we meet demand;

- Tuesday evenings 20:15-21:15 (from 19th February)
- Sunday evenings 18:00-19:00 (from 3rd March)

These are both available to book on the booking system now.

We’re also trialling making the small Spa Pool adult-only during children’s swim times (a reminder that children under 8 should not use either spa pools, and guidance on steam room and sauna use for children is displayed by each facility). When we refurbish the changing rooms this year, we will be increasing all facilities to ensure we are able to deliver on our commitment of providing the best facility in Hereford, ensuring we do our beautiful building the justice it deserves.

Younger Children and our Spa Pools
We have always displayed the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) guidelines for Spa pools, Sauna and Steam Rooms. If you have not had the chance to read them please can I request you take a moment to do so. Up to now we have worked on the basis that users should police this themselves however we have a duty of care to protect our younger bathers and I have instructed team members to enforce these rules more strictly, particularly the recommendation for the Spa Pools which states “Children under the age of 8 should not use the Spa Pools". Why? Safety. Spa Pools are set up for adults so the water is designed with adults in mind. The water can be up to 40 degrees (much warmer than you would have a bath for a young child), we add more chemicals to the water and the jets create turbulence which means when children go under water you cannot see them. I know this may not be a popular decision but I hope you will understand why we are now putting more focus on this area.

Upgrades
I am delighted to announce that we have secured funding from our owners to replace the Coffee Machine in the Orchard Café, in preparation for upgrades that we will be carrying out to the café bar and reception area this year. In addition:

- We have completed our water supply upgrades and now have a steady pressure water supply supplying our showers. Low pressure will now be a thing of the past!
- We are currently in the process of getting samples to replace all of the poolside loungers. We have received the first sample but it was too low, so we will continue to research to get the best lounger that is right for you.
- The changing room project has increased in speed and we are currently working on tile samples and deciding what types of fixtures we would like.

Thank you for being part of the Holmer Park family. If I can be of assistance please drop me an email: [email protected]

Kind regards,

Steven Chadwick
General Manager

Hello, Fitness Coordinator Clare reporting,

Class Did not Attends
Please can I remind all members that if you do not intend to attend classes, that you cancel as soon as possible. We do not wish to waste any spaces in classes, but over the last 10 days we have noticed a rise in members not attending booked classes.

The Benefits of Swimming
As some of you will know in addition to my role as Fitness Coordinator, I am also Holmer Park’s Swimming Instructor. I love all things swimming and have written a blog about the benefits it brings.

Head Chef Ben here, hello!

New Menu
I’m delighted to say that our new menu will start from the 4th March and we have some lovely new items that I hope you will enjoy.

My favourite is our new Vegan Penang Curry. An aromatic coconut curry with cauliflower, green beans, mange tout and peppers served with wild rice and a poppadum.

New Coffee Machine
As Steven has mentioned above, myself and the whole team are SO excited for the delivery of our NEW coffee machine! An upgrade on our current machine it will have three workstations so we can prepare coffee quicker and our new grinder will ensure the great coffee from Paddy and Scott’s is delivered beautifully to your cup. I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of our price increases. It’s never an easy decision but to ensure we continue to deliver the best possible standard of food and service it really was unavoidable.

See you soon at the Orchard Café!
