The rose has long been a symbol of beauty and love. It has many beauty-enhancing properties, especially for the skin.

The ancient Greeks and Romans used rose petals to perfume their bathwater. In its distilled form, rose has been included in cosmetics, medicines and therapeutic treatments for many centuries.

As an essential oil, rose has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. It can be applied to treat a range of ailments, from abrasions and burns to more common skin conditions. In fact, rose syrup is effective in easing sore throats, fevers and coughs.

You’ll find rose on the ingredient list of many modern beauty products, it may be listed in a variety of different forms such as rose water, rose distillate, rose essential oil or rosehip seed oil.

Rose essences do far more than just add a beautiful scent to your products, they help rejuvenate and replenish skin, so it feels as soft and velvety as a bed of roses.

The rose really is one of nature’s miracles…

Moisturising: natural oils that can be found in roses help skin feel smooth by locking in moisture. It’s especially beneficial for those with sensitive skin, the sugars in the petals help create a soothing feeling.
Anti-inflammatory: the calming properties from rose oil can help calm spots, reduce redness and can soothe rosacea and eczema.
Anti-bacterial: natural rose essential oil can help treat acne and soothe acne-prone skin, it has natural cleansing properties. Rose makes an ideal ingredient in face washes and cleaners too, giving your skin a little extra protection on the daily.
Toning: as a natural astringent, rose helps tighten pores and restores suppleness for a radiant, fresh complexion. Rosewater probably isn’t the softest toner you’ll find, however, unlike normal alcohol-based toners, rosewater leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft.
Antioxidants: you might not know that rose contains high levels of Vitamin C but as a powerful antioxidant, it can help protect your skin from damage and may prevent sunburn.
Naturally fragrant: the most distinctive attribute of the rose is the beautiful and delicate scent it has. For that reason, it’s popular within many organic beauty products, instead of using synthetic fragrances.
Relaxing: Aromatic rose essential oil calms and soothes the mind. Rose petals are intrinsic in Ayurvedic medicine to detoxify and calm. While this doesn’t directly give you beauty benefits, using a rose-scented lotion or cream will soften and relax the mind.
