Holmer's Headlines September and October 2019

25 Oct 2019

Hello, Steven here! Your club General Manager. Welcome to the September/ October edition of Holmer’s Headlines. It’s been a busy couple of months and we have some exciting things to tell you about…

Firstly, can I remind you of our club social events calendar? We have a few spaces left on the remaining events and it would be great to see as many of you there as possible. The wreath making event should be a real treat and I know there are a number of club members counting the days until our Merry Members Christmas Party opens for booking… well you’ll be glad to know we’re all planned and ready for this much anticipated event! Once again, we will be joined by the Herford Soul Choir and our fantastic magician. Before that though on the 29th November we have our Festive Market with a great range of products to purchase. From crafts to cakes and some of our gorgeous Spa products we really hope you’ll join us and support local people selling locally produced products. We’ll also be delivering Spa treatments on the night too!

Phased improvement programme
Moving on, I have some information on the phased improvement programme that we announced in September 2017. To date we have extended and completely redeveloped our car park, installed the very latest Technogym gym equipment, refurbished our stunning pool hall, invested over £200K on a full changing room renewal and we have now started the next phase; refurbishment of our treatment rooms and toilets. We will be starting the project in 3 of our treatment rooms and toilets on October 21st and the project is due to run until February 2020. Whilst we have planned extensively to reduce disruption to your visit please may we ask for your understanding at this very exciting time in the history of our building. As with all projects we do have a dedicated updates page which you can find at https://www.holmerpark.co.uk/news/view/refurbishment-updates/

Finally, 2020 promises to be just as exciting as we construct a new Yoga Studio, outdoor Spa Garden and refurbish our reception and entrance area.

Booking system
You will be aware we made further updates to our group fitness booking system. We have had lots of questions and feedback so I thought it would be helpful to provide you with a “Q and A” regarding the updates. Firstly, though I am not ashamed to admit that we have constantly reviewed the new booking system since we launched it, it certainly has been a learning curve and we have been working hard to ensure it not only works, but is fair and achieves our main goals of: a) allowing the club member control of booking and b) protecting class spaces.

  • Why were we not told about this? We did post a news article on the Holmer Park website and display posters in club. If you would like to view the article on our website you can at https://www.holmerpark.co.uk/news/view/class-booking-system-update/.
  • Why the change? Mainly down to the feedback we were receiving of the late starting of classes and the stress that it was causing at the beginning of classes, particularly Yoga and our other popular mind and body classes.
  • Why 06:30am as the time booking opens? 5 out of 7 days the club is open from 06:30am.
  • Why can I not cancel within 2 hours of the class start time? We have to try and allow a fairly reasonable amount of time for club members who are on the waiting list to make/ change plans to take part in a class that they may be promoted from.
  • Why do you have the sin bin? We have had the sin-bin since March so it is not a new system. It has been successful in protecting spaces on classes and we tend not to have many no shows now. I know from speaking with club members that they find it infuriating seeing classes that are “full” yet have only a, for example, 50% attendance and this is why we introduced the sin-bin. Good does come out of this too and at the end of the year we will make a 50% donation of all settled fines to two wonderful charities, St Micheals Hospice and the Hereford branch of Breast Cancer Haven.
  • How does the sin-bin work? A club member that does not attend a booked class or a class that they have been promoted to from a waiting list will be treated as a “no-show”. A 3-strike policy is in place for 3 missed classes. At 2 strikes the club member will be emailed to inform them that they have 2-strikes. At 3-strikes the club members booking rights will be removed until a £20 fee is paid.
  • How does the waiting list system work? Club members can join waiting lists for all classes. Waiting list places are reserved to 10. If a space becomes available on a class the club member in position no 1 will be promoted automatically. If the club member does not want this space then they should log in to their portal and cancel the booking. You have a constant view of your current waiting list position on your booking portal.
  • I have had an unforeseen emergency and cannot attend a class, am I penalised? If you do not attend a class due to unforeseen circumstances, you should email [email protected] at the earliest opportunity. It is at the discretion of club management whether or not to apply a “strike” and reasons will be considered on a circumstance by circumstance basis.
  • Why have you not been clearer about your policies? I agree that we fell short here in some instances. That is why we have published a set of rules that are now displayed outside of the studio and copies are available at reception.

I hope this is helpful and if you do require any further information you can contact myself or Assistant Manager Dan on [email protected]

Swimming Pool Supervision
The install of our underwater cameras was a huge success and they have already had a positive contribution to our swimming pool safety.  From this one position we are now able to see the whole pool bottom constantly without any blind spots and I have been really impressed with the willingness of club members to accept this piece of great technology that could contribute the rescue of a bather in some kind of difficulty.

I really so appreciate you as a member of the Holmer Park family and If I can be of assistance to you then please do get in touch.

Kind regards,

Steven Chadwick

Clare, your Fitness Coordinator here…

Our new Spin bikes have arrived and aren’t they just FANTASTIC! Plus, I am happy to say that the bikes are only a part of the new interactive spin studio. You will see that the decoration is still a working progress and maintenance manager Reg is working hard in between classes to get it all done! We will soon be completing the interactive installation where our projector will be set up and our spin classes will be more beneficial than ever. The team and I are so excited by this and following the first round of staff training last week we are all eager to get you all spinning, the Holmer Park way, very soon!

Hello, Head Chef Ben here…

For those of you who know me well, you will know I am keen on local produce. I am really proud of our Herefordshire roots but there is another reason too. As a club we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment and have taken a number of steps over the years but here are some of the recent steps that we have taken to reduce our “delivery miles”... we recently switched our coffee supplier to James Gourmet Coffee who are a small, family business based in Ross-on-wye. They import fresh coffee beans sourced with a focus on sustainability and great fairness within the coffee growing community. We have switched our Free Range Eggs to Country Flavours based in Preston-on-wye for an even more local egg from even happier hens! We continually look to bring our supplies in to the Café from as local as possible with our meat, vegetables, milk, drinks, wines, dry and frozen goods suppliers all in the Hereford or Worcester area. If you know of a local company that you think might be of help to us please do let me know as we’d love to work with local, like minded suppliers.

Please do get in touch on [email protected]

Kind regards,

Ben, your Head Chef
