Holmer's Headlines October 2020

27 Oct 2020

Hello and welcome to this months edition of Holmer’s Headlines.

When we first reopened we asked that wherever possible you avoid using the changing rooms and that you should arrive at the club exercise ready. That ask did hurt somewhat, particularly as we invested in excess of £200K in creating a great changing space for you all just last year, but right now it is the right thing to do and in line with government guidance. This has not changed so I must ask this of you all again. Please arrive at the club exercise ready and avoid using the changing rooms (particularly at peak times between 9am-11am and 5pm-7pm). They will of course remain open, for example, for anyone who needs to shower after their swim or for those with disabilities or special needs.

I hope you have seen some of the posters we have on display around the club and our social media posts about our current #HealthyHolmer campaign. Now more than ever it is important to look ourselves and our bodies. From quitting smoking, to drinking less alcohol, eating healthy and leading an active lifestyle we’re here to support you. According to the World Health Organisation, making improvements in these areas can support you in building a strong immune system which it goes without saying, is more important than ever right now.

We are also encouraging you to check your bodies for anything sinister. According to Cancer Research UK there over 50,000 new cases of breast cancer every year. Early detection is so important when it comes to diagnosing cancers so please do check and if you notice anything out of the ordinary, get advice as quickly as possible. We have put posters in the changing rooms with advice on what to look out for. For our male members there is advice on prostate and testicular cancers so again check and if you notice anything out of the ordinary, get advice as quickly as possible.

Looking after our mental health is so important right now too. Exercise can be perfect for your general mental wellbeing and recovering from depression. Whether that be running with a club, cycling on one of our bikes or taking part in a group exercise class. We’re here for you and if you need any help or advice we have put together the following blog:

We have had lots of kind and helpful feedback recently too and received this from members Caroline and Steve:
I just wanted to tell you how much this club has been a godsend to me both physically and mentally. It is somewhere we can both come together and look forward to coming even if it’s just to lie by the pool watching others swim. It’s not been an easy time for everyone and we both appreciate all your measures you have put in place.. the constant cleaning and the friendliness of staff…it’s like a little bit of heaven when I come here. Thank you for giving me something to look forward to in my day!

We have also had feedback regarding the pool hall so you will have seen we have installed a helpful banner to help educate bathers to make sure we utilise space so everyone has a great visit. This along with the exciting opening of our Sauna and Steam Rooms will hopefully be a positive for you all.

Thank you for being part of the Holmer Park family. To those members just joining us, a very warm welcome to you.
