Scrubbing Up – Holmer Park

A big part of your cleansing routine should include a body scrub or exfoliator. Whatever the product goes by; scrub, polish or gloss, the exfoliating ingredients needs to be abrasive enough to remove dead skin cells and excess dirt, but not too strong as to damage healthy skin.

Four reasons why you should be body scrubbing

If a body scrub isn’t part of your routine, you’re missing out on a number of benefits that other skincare products just don’t provide. So, what are the benefits of a body scrub?

Refreshed, rejuvenated skin:

One of the biggest benefits of using a body scrub is the removal of dead skin cells and impurities. Which leaves your skin feeling amazing and looking revitalized and rejuvenated.

Youthful skin:

A build-up of dead skin cells causes the skin to look dull. We shed our skin cells daily, anywhere from 11,000 – 23,000 cells an hour, exfoliating aids this process to make our skin look more vibrant and youthful. Giving back that fresh glow we all crave.

Moisturizing benefits:

After removing dead skin cells, exfoliating allows for easier absorption of moisturizer and moisturizing products. Most scrubs do now contain moisturizers, but it’s always best to use a little extra after drying yourself off. The richer the better!

Better self-tanning:

If you want that even, professional looking tan it is vital to exfoliate first. If you fail to do so, your tan will most likely be blotchy. The self-tan will cling to dry skin areas where dead skin has accumulated (prime spots being elbows and knees!), so a real good scrub first will ensure a perfect finish.

How and when?

We should be using a scrub at least once or twice a week. The easiest way to get into a routine is to exfoliate in the shower – start at your ankles and work upwards in gentle, circular motions. Avoid using too much pressure as the exfoliating agents do their work, you don’t want to damage your skin. Natural, plant or mineral based scrubs are kindest to the environment. Sugar and salt scrubs are some of the most popular ingredients found in exfoliating products, they are particularly effective. You may also find pumice as a key ingredient; this would be perfect for those with sensitive skin due to its finer texture.
